FPV drone pilot in Portland

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Portland for arena shows, concerts, festivals, venue fly-throughs and live feeds. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Portland, OR drone videographer page.

Moda Center and indoor venues

Our crew flew drones inside Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle to film Paramore's 2023 show, and Moda Center, the convention center and the city's hotels, theaters and music venues suit the same work with each venue's approval. Indoor flights at an arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

City parks rule

Portland City Code 20.12.180 bars operating a drone in a city park, with exceptions that include permitted work for the City, emergency landings, City-designated areas and flights under a park permit issued under Chapter 20.08. Portland Parks and Recreation also requires a permit for commercial photography and film or video, so we launch from approved sites and apply for a park permit where a shoot needs one.

Airspace

Portland International sits under Class C airspace northeast of downtown, the Air National Guard base at the airport is closed to drones, and Hillsboro and Troutdale have their own control towers. We check every Portland location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Oregon drone law and parks

Oregon treats flying below 400 feet over critical infrastructure as a violation unless the operator is FAA-authorized or has the owner's consent, and property owners can sue over repeated low flights after notice. Under ORS 837.380, that property claim does not apply to commercial flights made under FAA authorization, though privacy claims still can. Oregon State Parks and the ocean shore are closed to drones except at designated drone operation sites or with a special use permit.

Only in limited cases. City Code 20.12.180 bars drones in parks except for permitted City work, emergencies, designated areas or flights under a park permit.

Can Oregon property owners sue over drone flights?

In some cases. ORS 837.380 allows a claim after a repeat flight following notice, but not against commercial flights made under FAA authorization.

Can you fly FPV inside Moda Center?

Only with the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and lighting. We fly small, lightweight drones close to the action.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?
