Bozeman

FPV drone pilot in Bozeman

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Bozeman for resort and lodge fly-throughs, ranch and luxury real estate, outdoor brand films and campus content. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Bozeman, MT drone videographer page.

Resorts, ranches and outdoor brands

Our crew flew aerials for the All Things Go Music Festival at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens. We fly mountain resorts, ranch and luxury real estate, Montana State campus events, outdoor brands, weddings, construction progress and festivals across Bozeman and Big Sky. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see Bozeman, MT live event drones.

Big Sky, Yellowstone and wilderness

Ski areas set their own drone rules, so we get the resort's written permission before any Big Sky flight. Yellowstone National Park is National Park Service land, where launching or landing a drone is prohibited without the superintendent's written approval. The Lee Metcalf and Absaroka-Beartooth areas are designated wilderness, where the Forest Service does not allow drones to take off or land. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes.

Airspace, parks and Montana law

Bozeman Yellowstone International in Belgrade has a control tower and Class D airspace west of town, and summer jet and private traffic is heavy. Montana State Parks do not allow drones to launch or operate from public use sites unless Fish, Wildlife and Parks issues a permit. Montana law also bars interfering with aerial wildfire fighting, including with a drone, and the operator can be billed for the costs. Wildfire temporary flight restrictions can close large areas in summer and fall, and flying into one is illegal. We check every Bozeman location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Bozeman?

It depends on the address. Bozeman Yellowstone International has a control tower and Class D airspace west of town. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

Can you film Yellowstone with a drone?

No. Drones are prohibited in Yellowstone without the superintendent's written approval. We plan aerials outside the park.

Can you fly at Big Sky?

Only with the resort's written permission, and never in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, where drones may not take off or land.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?

Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
