Stadiums and events

GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium at the Truman Sports Complex are on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Kansas Speedway, on the Kansas side of the metro, is on the list too. Our crew flew five days of live coverage, live to FOX, at the FIFA Fan Festival Atlanta, and flew live drone feeds for the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. Federal sites

The Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence and the Marine Forces Reserve sites in Cass County are federal no-drone areas around the clock, and Whiteman Air Force Base near Knob Noster, about 60 miles east, is one too. Fort Leavenworth, northwest of the metro on the Kansas side, is also a federal no-drone area.

Missouri law and parks

Missouri law bars flying a drone below 400 feet within the property line of an open-air sports, music or entertainment venue that holds 500 or more people, or within the boundary of a critical infrastructure facility, without written consent from the facility's chief executive. FAA-authorized commercial operators flying lawfully are exempt, but we still get the venue's or owner's written approval. City park and event permits come from the City of Kansas City and the event organizer, so we check them before any public-space shoot. Missouri State Parks ask professional drone operators to apply through a special event or commercial production application at least a month ahead, with liability insurance, and Missouri Department of Conservation areas need a separate approval for drone photography.

Airspace

Kansas City International, about 15 miles northwest of downtown, has Class B airspace, and Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, just north of downtown across the Missouri River, has its own control tower, so many Kansas City addresses need LAANC. We check every Kansas City location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Can you fly near Arrowhead Stadium on game days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.

Can you fly near Whiteman Air Force Base?

No. Whiteman Air Force Base is a federal no-drone area from the surface to 400 feet, so we plan shoots well clear of it.

Can you fly in Missouri state parks?
