Live event drones in Billings

This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Billings. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Billings, MT drone videographer page.

Arena shows, rodeos and fairs

Our crew flew drones inside Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle to film Paramore's 2023 show. We fly arena shows, rodeos and fair events, downtown projects, the Rimrocks, construction progress, energy sites and real estate across Billings. For arena shows and rodeos we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

MetraPark and First Interstate Arena

For MetraPark events we work with the venue and check for any temporary flight restriction before the event. Inside First Interstate Arena we fly small drones with the venue's approval. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Airspace, parks and Montana law

Billings Logan International sits on the Rims above downtown under Class C airspace, so most central Billings flights need LAANC or FAA authorization. Montana State Parks do not allow drones to launch or operate from public use sites unless Fish, Wildlife and Parks issues a permit. That includes Pictograph Cave State Park. Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument is National Park Service land, where launching or landing a drone is prohibited without the superintendent's written approval. Montana law also bars interfering with aerial wildfire fighting, including with a drone, and the operator can be billed for the costs. Wildfire temporary flight restrictions can close large areas in summer and fall, and flying into one is illegal. We check every Billings location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Billings?

It depends on the address. Billings Logan International has Class C airspace over most of central Billings. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

Can you film Little Bighorn Battlefield?

Not from National Park Service land without the superintendent's written approval. We plan aerials from outside the monument.

Can you fly inside First Interstate Arena?

Yes, with the venue's approval. Indoor arena flights use small drones and a set flight plan.

Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?

Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
