We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Blacksburg for campus and research content, outdoor brand films, events and real estate. Virginia Tech and Lane Stadium

Our crew filmed aerials of The Independent, the Austin tower known as the Jenga building, for Science Channel's Impossible Engineering. Lane Stadium is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Virginia Tech requires written approval from its UAS Safety Office before any drone flight on its property, and outside commercial operators have extra requirements, so we apply well ahead. The New River Valley

Downtown Blacksburg, Christiansburg, farms, new communities and the mountains around the valley suit real estate and outdoor brand films, filmed with the owner's approval. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Blacksburg federal sites, parks and Virginia law

Radford Army Ammunition Plant is a federal no-drone area. Since July 2025, Virginia law makes an unauthorized drone flight over a military base, critical infrastructure, a utility or a federally regulated port facility a felony, so we stay off them unless the operator authorizes the flight. Virginia state parks ban drones except commercial flights under a special use permit from the park office, so we apply well ahead of any state park shoot. Virginia lets localities regulate drone takeoff and landing only on their own property, so we launch from private property with the owner's approval or get the locality's permission. Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport, about 3 miles south of downtown, has no control tower. We check every Blacksburg location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.

FAQs

Can you fly at Lane Stadium on event days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events, unless we are part of the approved production.

Can you fly FPV on the Virginia Tech campus?

Only with written approval from the university's UAS Safety Office, and outside commercial operators have extra requirements.

Can you fly at Claytor Lake State Park?

Only under a special use permit from the park office, because Virginia state parks ban drones otherwise.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?

Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
